Institute für Thermoprocess Technology - heat treatment facilities for metallic semifinished products, innovative and energyefficient
The thermoprocess technology is a key technology of modern industrial nations and it is an extremely energy-consuming technology. The mass production of metallic semifinished products (strip, sheet, tube, profile) is examplary for high energy effort. For these products heat treatment is used to achieve predefined material properties such as strength, hardness, ductiliy, electrical conductivity and surface quality. Due to increasing costs for energy and raw materials and with respect to the discussion concerning global warming caused by CO2 output it is mandatory to improve production plants and make them more energyefficient.
The ITP research & development activities focus on developing of energyefficient master concepts fpr heat treatment plants as well as on developing of detailed solutions. Recovery of energy from cooling of the product, the application of combined heat and power generation and improved components (e.g. hot gas fans) are our topics.
We perform experimental work and measuring in our workshop or on-site in plants of our clients. We also perform investigations with computational methods.
The Aachen company for plant engineering and construction, WSP GmbH, together with the "Fachbereich Luft- und Raumfahrttechnik" of the "Fachhochschule Aachen" have founded the „ITP Institut für Thermoprozesstechnik“.

The "Institut für Thermoprozesstechnik" is associated
with the "Fachhochschule Aachen"
